Frequently Asked Questions

General

Krav Maga in Hebrew means "Hand-to-hand combat."   Krav (קרב) meaning "combat" and Maga (מגע) meaning "contact" or "touch".

Both.  Krav Maga heavily focuses on simultaneous counter attacks while defending against attacks.  This allows defensive techniques to be much more effective as well as eliminating a "victim mindset" while being attacked.

Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression that was developed in Israel involving wrestling, grappling and striking techniques.  Check out our history page for more information.

Martial Arts

There is only one rule in Krav Maga and that is "Don't get hurt".  In class that means training safely and within your own limits. On the streets that means there are no rules and you do whatever is necessary to return home safely.    There is, however, a structured ciriculum to help with training and progressive learning.

Krav Maga Worldwide does use a belt/level member ranking system only to better organize classes.  Belts are not worn as part of a uniform in class.
